Treatment

In most cases of kidney stones, surgery is not necessary. Medication can be prescribed to reduce the pain caused by the stones in the urinary tract or alleviate the nausea/vomiting.
If a kidney stone is too big to be passed naturally, a medical intervention may be needed to remove it, such as lithotripsy (using shockwaves to break the stone) or surgery.
